Presentation

This week, I presented and I am very proud of myself. I did not get nervous and I was able to aware my audience on discrimination. Through each presentation that I accomplished I was able to make myself more clear in order for my audience to understand me. In addition, I enjoyed watching all the project that were presented, one of the projects that caught my attention the most was the immigration project. Especially, now that am concern for those who are not able to obtain a degree and work because they do not have papers.

This post will be contined,

Officially Done

I cannot believe it; I am officially done with my research project and my multimodal three. Through this process, I have learned a lot the results I received from my interviewees were incredible just the answers I expected to receive. In addition, I did not know I could write so many pages and words. Defiantly, I have grown as a writer and I am very proud to say this because thanks to this project and the negative situation I when through before researching discrimination. I could say that thanks to the person who discriminated me for my writing I could today thank him for giving me more self-confident and making me grow as a writer. Through this project, I express my thought on discrimination and examine each article, interview, survey and observation I made to complete this research project. I hope that this project will someday get to the hands of someone that will like to make a difference in our school system in order to ban discrimination. Is very sad to tell my readers that discrimination does exist in today is school system and that many students are becoming affected by this situation. Now at days not only Blacks are discriminated also Latinos and Blacks and it has gotten to the point that not only are thy discriminated by their ethnicity or race they are also discriminated against the economy, religion, education and sexual preference. I plan to expand this research on discrimination in the future not only on ethnicity and race, but also on religion, individual economic class, students sexual preferences and all discriminations, which exists in today’s school and society.
Tomorrow, I plan to complete my poster board presentation.

In Progress and Almost Done

I have come to the phase that am almost done with my research project and presentation. Also, my multimodal two and three. Am really excited with the work that I have completed and the work that I have created for my multimodal three. I created two videos that show discrimination performed my a professor to a student. The first video shows and takes place in the professor’s office. Also, it shows how the professor judges the student for having grammatical mistake on her research paper. This made the student fell doubtful of her school and herself because the professor confirmed her that she should consider dropping her major. The next video took place at the same professor’s classroom. Here he discriminated Latinos and told that class that not everyone is college material so they should consider dropping the class after seeing their paper results. Both of these scenarios are very hurtful for those who were discriminated by the professor. Nonetheless, too many was just a growth of confidence in their inner self and school wise. This week I will post my conclusions and thoughts of my research project, which I have created and examine through the semester.

Creations

So much have been created this week, I have completed my survey, part of my interview and observations. My two surveys were completed by twenty seven respondents. I got very accurate information and got the responses which I expected. So far I have interviewed 2 Latinos, 1 black and 2 Whites am missing the professor and 1 black female. Nonetheless, have observed around school the communication professors have with students in the hall ways. Some professors tend to like other students and ignore others.
This week I also completed my multimodal one, which I created a word cloud. My multimodal two is almost completed. For my multimodal two am creating a brochure that will help students avoid discrimination and help them understand the two types of discrimination that exist in today’s school system. Last but not least for my multimodal three am creating a YouTube video, which will contain discrimination. Two girls will act in this video one will act as a professor and the other one as a student getting discriminated by the professor, which is judging her by her background.
This week, I plan to complete my research project and start with my presentation. Hence to this, I have a lot of writing to organize.

Progress

This week I have catch up with my work so far, I have sent out the interview e-mails and I start interviwing this coming Monday. Also, I already completed my survey and am getting to more people to answer the survey questions for I could expand more my knowlege on the issue that I will like to prove to the community one day. Most of the people that have taken the survey have been discriminated therefore this will help me have more knowlege and know how those students felt after being discriminated. In addtion, most of the people surveyed have answered that is a form of racism than ethinicity. This could conclude that even now in the 21st century students are being discriminated by students and by professors. To be continue.......

Word Cloud Creation...

So far, I have created two world clouds, which was possible to create thanks to the surveys sent out and answered by my fellow classmates.  The survey consisted of answering one question, which askedWhat are the top three words used in order to discriminate an individual?” Fourteen classmates answered the question and helped me create these two word clouds, which have similar words, but some words from the first word cloud were removed. I have attached both word clouds to this blog because I was not able to copy and paste the image to later send it when the assignment is due. Therefore, a pasted both links to the blogs for the professor could be able to see both word clouds and approve the one he thinks is effective when distinguishing the words use to discriminate.

So far I have worked on my survey and I have alist of people, which am planning to interview. The survey is waiting to be approved by  the professor. Another work, which is in progress is my word cloud, I got feedback from a classmate, which she gave me an idea to create a survey and ask people what are the top three words use when  people discriminate others. I have started to work on my abstract and intro. Hopefully by next week, I have interviewed at least five people and I have catch up with all the work I need to turn in from my project. .

Nonetheless, I have created a new survey for professors and workforce employees, which I interact each day.  Also, I have created a list of people, which I will interview and survey in the following weeks. Tomorrow, I plan to prepare the e-mail that will be sending out to interviewees. Further information will be updated next week.

Gaining Knowledge

This week was all about gaining knowledge and experience. This week, I learned how to search and interview people for a research project. The first interview that I accomplish was about the literary background of a classmate. It was interesting to hear how she started to read, what her favorite book was and what languages she spoke and plan to expand her knowledge in learning other languages. Another interview, I organized this week was to find research and interview the hometown of a fellow classmate. I was amaze by the fact that Avon is such a small town and the most people who live there are Americans. Getting the knowledge of both of these interviews will help me later on while doing my own interview.

Avon, New Jersey

I never knew that New Jersey had such a small city. The person I interviewed today her hometown in Avon-by –the – Sea New Jersey. My interview started off by talking a little about the history of Avon, which she didn’t know much. The only thing, which she told me was that she believed Avon was called that name was because is very close to the sea. She didn’t know that the city was purchase by a tobacco wealthy man who bought the city for 45,000 dollars. She was very impress when I gave her that information.  We started talking about the schools in Avon she informed me that there is only one official school there. I was impressed me because I am so use of seeing so many schools in my home town. Another thing that we talked about was the people who lived there. She town me that most of them are whites and there is very few Hispanics and blacks. Also, that the Hispanics and blacks like in the other side of the town because they cannot afforded to buy houses where white live. Most of the houses over there cost at least 2 million dollars and the property taxes are very high.  Whites are the most that live in the other side of the town because those houses are left to them from family ancestor. For instance, her house was build by her grandfather and was left to her mother and father when they died. Therefore, the house is later pass to her or any other close family member. Later, we spoke about the authentic food of Avon. She says that there is no authentic food is the normal traditional American food like barbeque, burgers, and steak. She also informed me that there are lots of dinners in Avon city. There is not that much restaurants.
I really enjoyed researching this town because now I know something knew of a place a never knew existed.  When we talked I could tell that she enjoyed living in her hometown until she told me that “sometimes wasn’t cool to live in a place that you know everyone because people will start getting in your business” (Jersey proud.)  Now thinking of her response I believe that it should be really difficult to live in a place that everyone knows one.

Interview Analysis

Today, I interviewed a student, which had a very interesting literacy background. Since a young age she started to speak and read English. Nevertheless, she was taught basic key words in Spanish; due to the fact her grandmother only spoke Spanish. So in order to communicate with her grandmother she was taught Spanish.  As a grown-up she doesn’t only speak Spanish and English. She also knows some Protégées. In the future she will like to learn how to speak and read more Protégées, French, Italian and German.  After asking all her background question we started to talk about how did she began her interest of reading. It was at school and later at home when she was given books to read to improve her reading. She doesn’t remember what book she read for first time, but she really enjoyed reading a bear book. Her interest in reading the most was in eighth grade when she really knew how to read. She lived in Costa Rica back then and to a British school that infancies there students to read a lot. So she says that thanks to the teachers that worked at that school she was able to learn how to read better. She likes to read all types of books and believes that all books have something, which one could learn from it. I asked her that if she had taught other students how to read, her answer was yes. Also, she says that she thought that this girl who she taught how to teach was going to know more English and read better due to the fact that she came from a family that only spoke English. She believes that kids that come from professional parents know less than those that come from unprofessional families and all this is cause by the time professional parents don’t give to their kids.

Ideas

This week, I have looked for sources and completed my proposal. I have made the choice to not only add Latinos and Blacks to the discrimination issue, but also Whites. Not only this issue is affecting t the education system, but also the professional industry. I will like to interview, observe and survey students that go to the writing center to get help and later compare and contrast the attention and support, which the writing center gives to students. I will contrast it with the attention professor’s place on the students. Also, I will conduct an interview for professors and professional, which have experience the situation.. Obviously some professor will actually help their students become a better speaker and writer in the English area, but some will just critic the students and bring him or her expectations down. This week, I have basically focused on completing my proposal and come up with all the question that I have plus the interview and survey questions. I am just waiting for my research project to be approved for I could start this project to gather as much information as possible to be able to let people know some of the issues going on in the education and professional system.

Proposal

This week the process of my research project has been very thoughtful. I am thinking of what am going to research and what am going to write about in my proposal to see if my argument gets approve. I have been thinking of creating my research paper on the discrimination that exists in today's school system and how this has affected many Hispanics and Blacks. Also, how the language have been the fundamental reason why professors have discriminated their students. The idea of this research is to expand my last research on this case and get further arguments from different types of people. This week, I have researched on the internet for new cases of discrimination that have occurred recently in the U.S.A. Nevertheless, this week, I discussed this case with fellow students that gave me lots of great ideas to make my research paper count further in the future in our society.
